Everyone there is so friendly, and the restaurant itself is a nice place to eat. The food is delicious! I just had the tinga taquitos, and I wanted more!

Cute hole in the wall spot. Walked in and felt a sense of community. The menu had a lot of variety, but food was quite greasy.

My original review still stands, but I wanted to write an update specifically to comment on TJ's Taco-centric menu on Friday and Saturday from 5 - 10 pm. TJ's tacos are probably the best Mexican food I've had in Brea for a hot minute. When I was talking to Jesus and Angie, they shared that they have been feeling inspired by street-style tacos found in Tijuana and across Southern CA and wanted to do their own spin. The menu is set up where you have a list of classic meats (e.g. asada, al pastor, pollo, carnitas, birria, lengua) and stewed meats (e.g. pork ribs, chorizo and potatoes, chicharron with meat, and steak in red salsa), and you can choose to have any of those proteins in a taco, burrito, quesadilla, or on top of fries/chips. They also have a few specialty items. The quality and taste of all the offerings are fantastic, which is unsurprising considering the quality and care they put into their daytime menu. Each taco is also loaded with meat and toppings. I'm usually full with 2, and I can never eat more than 3 personally. My favorites are: - The chicharron con carne: while many places I've been to only stew the pork skin, TJs also includes the meat attached to the skin. I don't know what they do, but the texture reminds me of a really good pork belly that is then stewed in a medium green sauce. This is my go-to. - Taco gobernador: This is a shrimp taco with grilled onions, avocado, chipotle aioli, and chopped jalepenos on tortillas with the cheese grilled into it. The texture and the flavors of everything together is top tier. - Al pastor: I personally like my al pastor to be a little sweeter than others, so that's my only disclaimer. The al pastor is a perfect break in-between other tacos since it has a different flavor profile than their other ones. - Homemade chips: need I say more? - Not a taco, but their creamy habanero salsa is so good. It's a sweet heat type of salsa that doesn't burn you, but you feel the heat for a while. TJs also offers a couple of aguas frescas and their usual drink options from the daytime menu, which is perfect to wash these tacos down. And of course, Jesus and Angie's customer service is second to none. They always check in to make sure everything was to my liking, and they never hesitate to accomodate if I happened to have a request. If you're looking for a solid and chill taco spot in Brea on a Friday or Saturday, I really recommend giving them a try.
